The Ride...

Jason took a quick glance as his watch and sighed deeply as his phone began to ring. Daniel followed as he trudged back up the stairs into the living room, then bent down to answer the phone.

"Yeah, I know...I had a perspective come in...Oh give me a break...Who said that? You can't trust them...Don't let them in the studio, they'll kill the system!...Yeah, I'm coming...Give me five minutes..."

He put the phone back, taking a deep breath before turning to Dan and shaking his hand.

"Well, it was nice to meet you Mr. Jones. Think it over and give me a call...Amazingly not many people have come to look..."

"I'll do that, Jason. May I ask where you're going?"

"Just call me JD, everyone else does, and I'm heading over to Sony...Said that they've got a singer in there ready to do the final master copies for an album...Lovely mess to wake up to..."

"Give me two minutes, and I'll give you a ride over there...I'm supposed to drop off a tape anyway."

As Daniel jogged out the door, JD fell into the couch, glancing out the window. This guy was way to nice for being a superstar...Just a little different compared to everyone else he had worked with. He had been there when SG got signed, got to see how the business worked with their first album, and now he was being brought back into it once again.

He walked down the stairs and out to the curb to wait, letting thoughts run through his head. 'Wonder what's on the tape...Wonder why he's taking me to work...Wonder where Darren is...' He was cut short when Daniel stopped his dark blue SUV at the curb.

"Come on then, don't want to be any later than you already are..."

Jay climbed inside, falling into the seat and glancing out the window as Daniel began the drive to Sony Records.

"So..umm, Daniel, why are you looking for a new apartment?"

"Well, touchy subject...The guy who owns our lot over there basically burned up our contracts for the building, so we all have to move out...And before you ask, Darren is coming in next week, so this might just be a temporary thing..."

"That's fine...I figured it wouldn't last..."

"Huh?"

Jay looked back out the window, lost in his own world.

"Oh nothing...I just can't believe that you answered the ad. I mean, it's cool and all, but I've idolized you since I saw you and Darren in that recording booth...It was my first time interning, and you guys were the first band I ever got to work with...And to tell the truth, I was simply amazed..."

"And now you get to see every band or soloist that walks through those doors...Bet you're wondering what's on the tape...I knew you'd start milling it over as soon as I left..."

"I thought maybe demos, but I don't know what for..."

Daniel tried to hide his snort of laughter as a security guard waved them through into the garage.

"Is that all you thought? What kind of music genius are you if you didn't come up with more than that in three minutes?"

"I never said I was a genius, just musically inclined...Besides, I was thinking about other stuff while I was waiting. My every thought is not stuck on you Mr. Jones."

Dan chuckled as he parked the vehicle and stepped out, locking the doors as Jay followed his lead.

"JD, that's not what I meant...What I meant was that I thought that you would have come up with the idea that Darren and I were making a new record, and that this tape has the new demos on it...Darren is coming in next week because we have our main meeting with the execs..."

Dan waggled the tape in front of Jay's face. He snatched it from Dan's hand and looked it over, seeing Darren's scrawl on the case. It read 'Affa Dub #1' on it, a title that meant very little to him at the present moment. He handed it back, smoothed out his coat, and headed for the door.

"Well Mr. Jones, I hope to hear from you...I have to attend to some spoiled Diva type people, if you'll excuse me..."

He smiled a little, then faded into the darkness behind the door as it shut behind him. Dan looked at the tape again before heading towards the door himself, grinning again at the simple thought that Jay wasn't just some ordinary person, he was fanatical about his music, about his job...Almost the was he was........
